I originally submitted this puzzle to a newspaper in July. In September, before I had heard back, the Wall Street Journal ran a puzzle with virtually the identical theme, albeit as a meta crossword. The rejection email I eventually received in October curiously didn’t mention the WSJ‘s puzzle.
